Opened 1966. I grew up in OB, and remember when it first opened. It was one of the biggest things to happen in the neighborhood.
I was fined $50 for jumping off the end of the pier during the summer of 1967. I was 16, what do you expect? :)

On May 17, 1995 the M60 tank stolen by shawn nelson was taken from here. He simply walked in the gate and got into the tank. Took him 3 tries before finding one that would "turn over". The rest is history, literally.

Must follow directions. Many recruits like to add a little air in thier packs during water survival. This makes the pack too bouyant and it tries to force a person face down in the water.

Same here, lived in Barracks 67 for three weeks during the Spring of 1969. It was hot, smelly, and COLD at night.
I hated scrubbing my uniforms by hand, even worse than that was having to stand watch with rifles once the laundry had been hung out to dry.
After Nimitz, we moved into brand new barracks on the main side of NTC, 3-story barracks that had washing machines and dryers, what a welcome change!
