Thank you for your service! My family and I toured the Midway on Memorial Day and it was a wonderful, enriching experience.

Former Mayfair market. There was a Denny's in the parking lot at one point too.

I forget if it was this building, or 176, but we had a detachment of Royal Saudi Navy at NTC that berthed here. Man those guys sure knew how to party, believe it or not.

These were complete when I arrived at RTC, but they were empty and hadn't outfitted them yet with racks, so we were assigned to B67, North Upper on the first night.

Funny you mention that. I came back to NTC in '85-'86 for some refresher training. I had a friend in supply that worked here, and ran uniform issue. I didn't have to steal anything. If I needed it, he would get it for me in exchange for cigarettes. Two cartons of Camel Lights got me 5 pairs of dress white trousers, 5 dress white tunics, 10 sets of dungarees and shirts, countless shirts, socks, and underwear, and a few pairs of black shoes. That stuff cost alot of money at the NEX. That gear lasted so long I never had to buy new uniforms, except for a set of Desert BDUs and the Utilities, until I retired in 1996.

Of the remaining Nimitz barracks, this one is in great condition, and even seems to still have running power and water. It doesn't appear to have been used for fire training, and could possibly even be a candidate for restoration.

I went inside Building 66 last weekend. See pictures. The entire interior was gutted by fire training. Pretty sad.

They had a few classrooms in this building, but most of their training was done next door in Bldg 94.

Finally got inside my old building after getting access from the Fire Department. It wasn't used for fire training, but was pretty heavily graffitied. I'm glad it's still there, hadn't gone inside it since July 1969.

Always loved that church. I worked as a mason's tender and a construction laborer on it during its construction, and served as a server there during Mass for several years. My dad, Carl Dick, was the general contractor who built it in the 1960s. I believe the pastor, Msgr. Ott, had a brother who served as the architect. Loved those lofty arches, the travertine, the marble and all that gorgeous stained glass. So glad to see it so well maintained every time I'm in San Diego. I remember watching an 80-year-old guy named Mr. Bolton assemble the original pipe organ. (He used sheepskin to connect it all, and played it masterfully as well.) At the time of its construction, I believe the console, the pipes and the hardware for it all were in the choir loft in the back.

The coordinates point to the wrong house; they point to 6344, not 6356. It is the brown house to the right, not the grey house.
