  • Enlisted Swimming Pool, diverdavid wrote 11 years ago:
This is correct, this location was the enlisted swimming pool. The 2nd pool was north east next to a chow hall, that was for officers, chiefs and waves (females)
  • Water Tower, diverdavid wrote 11 years ago:
Early 80's after running PT I would stop under the water tower and pull the chain and would drench myself.

Played war games there in the Marine Corps Reserves in the 80's and saw it for my self, it had a small fenced off area that we respected. I think, but not sure that Some of the Scripps family was buried there too.

I was stationed there in 1980 to 1988 in the Marine Corps Reserves, A co. 4th Tank battalion., The tanks or firing you heard was from the Marines, not the National Guard, as I was part of that training. There were no live firing at Camp Elliott at this time, Just Blanks. Live firing took place at Camp Pendleton.

Camp Elliot wasn't used for the Marine Corps recruit training rifle ranges but the MCRDSD recruit rifle ranges were located at Camp Mathews where UCSD is located today.

Ron again. Two years and none of you rugged mountain men know about the cave up here? LOL I guess this terrain is a little to intense for today's "hikers."

I feel like Methuselah. Earlier this week it was fifty years to the day (October the 20th) when I arrived there and became part of Company 580. I was the mail petty o and it wore me out during sports week. I could hardly get out of the pool. It's gone now isn't it? It was a strange and yet sort of good place for me at that time in my life. No bad memories and San Diego was cheap and cheerful in those days. Dan from St Louis but for most of my adult life living in England.

The "Adobe Falls" hike exists on land that is owned by San Diego State University. Unfortunately, there have been an increasing number of incidents in this canyon recently (including illegal activity and serious injuries requiring medical rescue). The SDSU Police Department is making it a priority to prevent and mitigate these public safety issues. Police officers will be actively patrolling this canyon. Hiking this area is not sanctioned and trespassing on this land is a violation of California penal code section 602. Please find other sanctioned paths to hike...there are plenty in our beautiful city. Best, SDSU Police Department 619-594-1991
