Why "El" paisa, and not "La" paisa is puzzling, but that is the sign on the restaurant.

Otay Mesa is incorrect west of the 5 freeway. The salt flats are not part of Otay Mesa or Nestor.

Sycamore Site B was where the Atlas was tested back in the day. In the mid 80's, I conducted vibration testing on the Shuttle Centaur at Site B/ Site D was where they loaded up the Tomahawk Cruise Missiles with conventional warheads and delivered them to the government. Always liked working out at Sycamore, before Poway got "large" . . . We'd go off-roading in the surrounding area during our dinner breaks (worked second shift). Rumor had it that the Navy stored nukes, spurred by the "Keep out - lethal force authorized" signs and the presence of Marine guards in well armored vehicles that would appear out of nowhere if you got into areas that you shouldn't. NAS Brunswick had the same security presence where they stored their nukes.

These bunkers seem to be very old - Historic Aerials shows them already existing in the 1950s. I'm active-duty and currently stationed at Miramar - these aren't used any longer that I know of.
  • Zepplin Avenue, RBScott (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
If you have ever wondered why this road is called what it is, there used to be an airship mooring mast somewhere over here. I'm trying to pin down its exact location. The USS Akron incident occurred somewhere here.

You guys make me feel like an old timer. I was there in 1959, company 204. What a time that was. Just turned 17 years old. though I knew everything about the world. Boy did I get a waking. Going to Camp Pendleton this Christmas (2013) to be their Santa for the season. I was looking forward to visiting the old base, but now, oh well, time marches on......................................
