Yea no respect for us guys who busted our. Ass I was there in 1987. Aug. Co 161. They should have saved a building and made it into some kind of hotel I would have loved to bring my daughter my son and wife to show them how strong our miltary was. No respect these state officials and developers. Blood sweat tears and sacarifices us men and woman made. And it comes down to greed. They paved over memories for the mighty dollar. And the next president if it's that woman will destroy even more of the history and pride of our military.

Camp Elliott extended much farther west than indicated on this map. It went all the way out to what used to be called El Camino Real or the Pacific Coast Highway. It covered much of the land now occupied by the University of California, San Diego. A small monument remains on the university. I remember seeing the Marines in training there as we drove along Miramar Road, years ago.

My sister was there when it was buried. I thought about it when it became kroc middle school. I went to the office and asked about it and they had no clue. They looked at me like i was crazy. I remember my sister saying they buried gym shorts etc.

My name is Kyle Overby. I was in boot camp at camp limits in summer of 1980. I am interested in the person that you mentioned running into after basic named McElroy. I'm interested because I served with a gunners mate,as I was also, named McElroy White. He had served in vietnam on river patrol boats, so the time frame is right. However, if McElroy was your friends last name, please disregard, but thank you for your service.

South Course seems "new" to me. I seem to recall this area used to be full of athletic fields, picnic areas and the like. It was a big, giant park, not a golf course. The North Course will always be THE Admiral Baker Golf Course to me.

I was at Camp Elliot for about a month or so in 1945. It was between boot camp in San Diego and going by troop ship to Pearl Harbor, where I served in the Fleet Post Office. Camp Elliot was WAY out in the sticks but wonderful compared to boot camp. We had to take a bus into town that seemed.to take a long time to get there.
